    wondering if anyone can help

2 questions really as I only got adobe the other week.

    1. How come when I go to export a FLV file from FCP or compressor I’m not given the option in the settings even though I’ve installed Production Premium on my mac? Is it a case of having to mess around with preferences or am i missing something?

    2. what’s the dif between .flv and f4v?

Many thanks for any suggestions or advice.

    Cheers, Matt

You could have done the search yourself.

    Thanks Steve, appreciate the link,

however doesn’t answer why I can’t export .flv files from FCP. When I go to export either by quicktime, compressor or quicktime conversions I’m not give the option. I have Adobe production premium installed on the machine so thought I’d be able to, perhaps misguided?

    Hi Matt,
Go to your Main> Library> QuickTime and make sure that you have the “FLV.component”.

I think that is an Flash H264. I think that is you change the extension of a QT h264 to .f4v, Flash player will read it.
.m4v is one of the possible QT MP4 extensions.

Have you installed Flash Encoder? You need that for QT or FCP to export flv. When you Export from QT you choose Movie to Flash Video (flv). When you click Options you can adjust various settings. In FCP, Export Using QT Conversion. In Format choose Flash Video (flv). Options works as mentioned above. I’ve never used Compressor to make flvs (I use Sorenson Squeeze). I’m not sure you can make flvs with Compressor, but you can make an H.264 and change the extension from .mov to .flv and it will work. The latest Flash Player will work with H.264 files with the extension changed to .flv.
