CS3 on Mac only using 3GB of RAM
Posted by Accountclosedduetonorealnameused on July 3, 2007 at 5:44 pmI have AE CS3 running on my Intel mac with 5GB or RAM but AE is only seeing 3GB.
Is this a limitation?
Can I get AE to see all 5GB?Adolfo Rozenfeld replied 19 years, 2 months ago 3 Members · 2 Replies -

July 3, 2007 at 6:02 pmNo process/application in Mac OS X can use more than 3GB of RAM, this is a limitation of 32-bit applications in a 32-bit OS.
The upside of having more RAM in your machine is that you can use other applications and without drawing RAM from AE (or resorting to paging files, which are slow). In addition, in CS3 the multiple processor/core support opens multiple instances of AE and each of these instances can use up to 3GB of RAM, so if you have more than one processor/core you should turn this preference on and see some pretty big differences in rendering/RAM previewing.

July 3, 2007 at 7:56 pmAE CS3 can use 3 GB of RAM *per process*, so with simultaneous processing in an 8-core system you could effectively take advantage of 24GB of RAM and have some more for using PS or any other application.
