  DVCAM Capturing Issue

  Hi,

  I’m trying to capture a DVCAM tape into FCP2 using the DV PAL 48 kHz Anamorphic capture setting. When I preview the tape the picture is fine but when I capture and play back the file, the text is pixelated and the picture looks slightly blocky too. I have tried capturing not anamorphic but with the same results. Other settings (i.e. HDV, DVCPRO50) will abort capture after a couple of seconds. Can anybody recommend the correct setting to capture DVCAM footage at?

  You are doing nothing wrong and there is no other way to capture.
  The problem is the codec.
  Try editing and rendering in a time-line with a better codec (at least DVCPro50. Better: Proress).
  You should have a try to the Nattress “Chroma smooth/Sharpen” plugin.
  works incredibly well with the “blockiness” of the picture.
  As I said before if your footage is DVCam your sequence must be 422.

  I always suspect that the editor is not monitoring picture properly and is using the Canvas to test image quality. One needs to have an external video monitor (not computer monitor to pull this off). Setting the Canvas to 100% precisely is a workaround for checking image quality.
