  another RAID post, this time RAID 5 for laptop & desktop

  Laptop and Desktop — one RAID for both? Or is that a bad idea?

  I need to start an edit here, then pack up everything, fly to my clients’ location and do the fine cut there. So I need to find a RAID 5 which I can use in my home editing suite, then plug into my laptop. (I’d far prefer to use my desktop for the initial edit, rather than use only the laptop.)

  I assume that the limiting factor is the Express Card eSATA. I’ve got the “good” 15″ MacBook Pro (the “old” Intel with the Express Card) and an Intel Mac Pro.

  (I realize that this forum is sick of RAID posts but I searched, and I suspect that there is a more up-to-date solution. And it would be great to hear from somebody who actually has done this.)

  As I mentioned yesterday on the phone, this very subject is covered in my review of the CalDigit HDOne. Below is the paragraph I was referring to:

  If I were covered in money the CalDigit HDOne would be terrific; it’s a bit pricey. David, you know me too well to recommend a RAID that’s more than the net worth of General Motors.
