  Sync slipping in FCP 5.0.4 with P2 files

  Hi,

  I’m new to P2 cards, and have read all of the importing etc. tutorials on the site. I’ve had no problems importing. When I put a clip into my timeline, however, it becomes just a little bit longer, which means in the beginning of the clip the audio is perfect, but by the end the picture is just ever so slightly behind the audio [all clips are originally 00:12:22:12 but invariably longer in the timeline from anything from 18 frames and onward]. I tried the “Removed Advance Pulldown” method–this one is under “Tools” in the menu bar in this version of FCP, but it doesn’t allow me to select it. Is there something else I can try?

  Never used P2 but these out of sync issues used to come up often with media from Canon DV rigs caused by Canon’s not standard DV codec. The audio sampling rate was just slightly different form FCP’s default DV setting.

  Work on a copy of the media! Duplicate it at the Finder and import the copy.
  Unlink the audio from the video. Find out how long the video clip is exactly, write it down. Open the Speed function for your audio and enter the exact length of the video track. Relink them, maybe render the audio if you have to.

  Thanks for the suggestion.

  I just re-imported everything, and it seems to be fine. I have a suspicious in had something to do with the frame rate in my timeline, but now it’s all solved!
