I am running FCP 6.05 on a MacBookPro.

I am looking into getting a HD camera, and I am wondering about the Canon Vixia series, particularly the HG20 and HSF100 models. These record onto internal hard drives and SD cards… Are the recorded formats compatible with FCP, image and soundwise? Will I have to render the sequence if I bring in footage from these cameras? Or are the recorded formats compatible with some FCP sequence setting?

    Any info much appreciated!

Like all AVCHD cameras the H264 files need to be converted before editing to an edit codec like ProRes.

As to whether Log & Transfer will work – don’t know. I suggest you hire or borrow a camera an do some tests.
