DV CAM – Final Cut Pro
Hi folks,
A few years ago, I shot some footage on PD-150 in DVCAM on mini-DV tapes. Now, I’m trying to feed this footage into Final Cut Pro, using a friend’s Panasonic 3.1. The tapes play fine in the camera, they play without any obvious problems in the capture viewer (mabye skipping a bit), but when I try to capture, the image plays in slow motion then freezes, and a message comes up saying ‘dropped frames during capture – aborted’.
I assumed that if the tapes played in the camera and the viewer they could capture. I’m using standard preset 48 NTSC. Is there another setting I should use or can I simply not capture using anything but A PD-150 or another DVCAM-friendly camera?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Um… “skipping a bit” would be an obvious problem. It suggests a physical problem with the tape, or an incompatibility with the deck.

Dropped frames are most often because your hard drive can’t keep up with the capture. But it can also be caused by problems with the deck or tape. Try to find a DVCam deck or camera to use for capture.

Sorry, I’m a bit of a neophyte to FCP. You’re right, probably a compatibility issue and will have to bite the bullet and rent a PD150 or like camera.

I agree with Arnie.
You better capture to an external HD and set the capture preferences so FC do not abort in Dropped Frames.
Normally there are not such drop frames.
