I’ve just finished my last sd editing project. I’m planning on making up a master file.
The video was shot in sd on a z1 in 16:9 I’ve just opened up the file in the QuickTime player and it looks wrong, its looking squished.

I’ve made a new project and imported this file in to it and put it on the time line and it also looked wrong. To get the correct aspect ratio I’ve had to check the anamorphic box.

This might seem stupid but have I done something wrong?. should I just leave things as they are or is there a setting I’ve overlooked.

Thanks for any help or advice.

    Hi Stewar,
There’s nothing wrong with your movie.
It looks distorted in QT because is interpreting the pixels as squared.

    Charles,

If you open a new timeline with the proper settings you should not have to set anamorphic for HD, only for SD. So, this indicates that your timeline settings do not match your video, if indeed you shot HD rather than widescreen SD, which you failed to mention in your post.

I would strongly suggest that you watch and follow the following brief tutorial, which should be followed every time you open a new project. https://library.creativecow.net/articles/biscardi_walter/realtime_sequences.php

Are you sure you shot in SD on your Z1? HD is always in 16:9, so when you check the anamorphic box, it will squeeze it more than you’d want it to be.

When you render your sequence to a quicktime, it’s perfectly normal that it isn’t in widescreen in quicktime player. Just make sure that, when you want to make a dvd or a video for web, your settings are set to 16:9 when you compress it.

    Greetz and lots of luck,

    Brecht

david thanks for getting back to me.
the project was filmed in SD and it was edited in SD but when I viewed the file in the quick time player it looked wrong.
I did put this in the post “The video was shot in sd on a z1 in 16:9”

    thanks
