  • How to proceed with a .wmv (1024 x 576) video ?

Posted by Fredy Schwerdtner on June 5, 2009 at 12:43 am

    I will have to re-edit a movie. It is a .wmv with 1024 x 576 25 fps . I will make a DVD out of it.
Which would be the best codec to final render it ? It is not to be used in Europe. It will be used in Brazil and North America.

    thanks fellows ….

What’s the wmv’s data rate? Starting with a wmv doesn’t imply a high quality result. How to you intend to convert the wmv to an editable codec?

hi John, thanks for answering my question ….
Opening the file in FCP, I can see in the Browser a data rate of 1,3 MB/sec.
About the codec to edit it, that was my question. I need an advise on that. I have never worked with this size …. I’m not sure but I think, by the size, it is a PAL movie ….

You could use the DV PAL codec and IMHO not lose any visual quality. However, if you are adding graphics you might want to use DVCPro50 or ProRes which will maintain their quality at a much higher level than DV.

Do the conversion with Compressor and make sure all the quality settings in the Encoder tab of the Inspector are set to Best. The conversion will take a while.
