  • How to create a TXT file of Shots used & descriptions from final EDL

    Dear Cows

I apologize if this answer is lying around. I’m on deadline (who isn’t) and I need to provide the producers of the doccie we’ve finished with a list of all the shots used in the show so that they can work out how much stock footage they’ve used.

So I need a way to export (XML?) the EDL in such a way that I can see the shot descriptions, TC in, TC out, Dur etc.

I’ve exported an XML but do not have the time to clean it up…

I’ve tried Title Exchange Pro and XML2Text with no luck. Those very useful apps seem to be all about TEXT and not really geared to what I’m trying to do.

Looking forward to some really sharp feedback.

    cheers

    Llewelyn

    Llew

Select all the video in your final timeline (you wont need the audio) drag them to an empty bin. sort by reel name. delete the extraneous stuff like titles and transitions. sort by media start, and make a Batch List (Export>Batch list)

now you have a text file of all the shots in your final show. You can use microsoft Excel to sort them further, OR sort the bin in FCP and export a new batch list (i believe the batch list order follows the bin sort, but its been a while)

Dear Bob, while I have you “on the line”

I’ve just had a look at the Batch list and it’s very rich in information, however the one critical bit of info I’m missing is TC IN and OUT for the edit.

I need to compile an Archive Usage report for the Producers so that they can pay for what they’ve used and while I can see from the BATCH list which bits of archive we’ve used and how much I can’t provide any TC for the program master. I have exported an EDL list of just the Archive video layers but it is very difficult to decipher and ‘marry’ to the BATCH list.

    Any ideas.

    regards
