Can the matte be removed from a greenscreen before export?
I have a client for whom I have shot a greenscreen clip of an annoucer. I successfully removed the background, but I need to export it in such a way that his web tech guy can put it on the splash page of their website so that it looks as if the announcer is strolling out onto the page.
I have done simple composite shots myself in FCP 6 using FCP’s Chroma Keyer plugin, but I put in the desired background myself. In this case, I’ve been asked to produce a simple .avi clip without a background. Is that even possible? That is, can one export a video file that is just a figure with no background whatsoever, or will the web guy have to do a composite with his background?

Do not render the keyed clip and export using the Animation codec with colors set to millions+. Take it to your compression program to resize and encode to whatever codec the web tech guy specifies.

Would that be the Animation codec in Compressor? I don’t seem to see such a codec in FCP itself. Thanks.

We do these web videos all the time. It sounds like they are going to build this in Flash. Flash recognizes the alpha channel.
[Tom] Take it to your compression program to resize and encode to whatever codec the web tech guy specifies.
They will most likely want it uncompressed. Flash will compress the footage with the background when the web guy is done with it. We just give it to them as an Animation – millions +. Hope this helps.
