  • FCP Plays Out of Sync, but fine in QT

I captured some 24p mini DV footage. It plays back fine in Quicktime, but when I import into FCP 5, it is considerably out of sync, whether it’s playing from a sequence or in the Viewer. I have tested it on two separate computers with no external monitors attached. I have also used both of these computers extensively and never encountered this problem.

Any help would you be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

QT Player and the Browser merely display the media. FCP’s canvas displays your media after it has been modified to fit the specification s of the sequence. If your sequence settings do not precisely match the media, there can be sync issues.

It’s out of sync before I even put it in a sequence (playing it in the Viewer, straight out of the Browser). Plus my sequence settings match the clip settings.

Maybe an adjustment to the frame offset in system settings ===>playbackcontrol

Did you ever figure out a solution to this? I’m experiencing exactly the same problem. I have a project with about 22 clips, all are fine except for two. If I open them in QT, they play perfectly, but are out of sync (and drifting) when I import them into Final Cut, before they even get cut into a sequence.

My problem turned out to be that the tape that I thought had been shot 24p was actually 29.97. When I recaptured it at 29.97, it played fine in FCP.

That doesn’t really sound like your problem though, so good luck!
