Deinterlace in Compressor
I also posted this in the Compression Techniques forum as well.
I have a ProRes422 timeline that I want to deinterlace. I brought a Quicktime Reference file into Compressor and applied “ProRes422 for interlaced material” to the file. I turned on frame controls, set the field order to progressive, and set everything to “best.”
When the file was complete, I brought the file into FCP to see if it was deinterlaced. FCP was saying the field dominance is Lower(even) instead of None.
What did I do wrong? Should I have chosen “ProRes422 for progressive material?” If so, that’s a bit deceiving, but I’ll give that a try a while.
And no, I don’t have a Kona card.

??What does that have to do with your post??
If you click on Video settings you will see that Compressor>Interlaced is probably check, this will give you interlaced footage when you are done. So you took interlaced footage and deinterlaced it only to put the interlace back into it. You will see that this is the difference between the for Interlace and for Progressive. The “FOR”… is for the resulting file and not the source.

Rob,
you should know by now that FC can not interpret properly any footage.
If your movie shows up as Lower in the FC Browser this doesn’t means tha is Lower. FC just guess.
Set it as NONE and have a look how it works in a NONE sequence. Or use AE or Shake to check if the movie have been properly de-interlaced in Compressor.Michael points to to the “Interlaced” box inside Proress compressor. This doesn’t change nothing in the way the interlacing is managed. Is just to optimize the Proress compression.

Michael, the reason I said, “No I don’t have a Kona card” is because whenever I ask a question that has to do with exporting or things of that nature, people always say to use the Kona card. Well, I don’t have $2500 for a Kona card yet. So that’s why I said that.

FYI I got a Kona LHe with a breakout box on ebay for $750. There are deals out there on good used gear in this market.Ken
