capturing 23.98 from an HD 59.94 tape into FCP
I am trying to capture a show from a 59.94 tape as a 23.98 project because that is how the show was filmed. My problem is that the audio is then very slow and I’m not sure if there is a way around it? I also tried capturing a 29.97 project and then conforming the frame rate and fixing cadence in After Effects but then again when I export audio is delayed. Can anybody help meeee????

What format was this shot on? What deck are you capturing from? What settings did you choose in the Easy Setup? We can’t answer anything without knowing details. Too many formats out there.

Sounds like your audio issue has nothing to do with the frame rate. Audio speed for 23.98 and 59.94 is the same.

The show was shot 23.98, edited 59.94. I am using an HD SRW 5500 deck to capture it. Easy setup is on 1080i 29.98 Apple Prores HQ 422. I then fix the cadence in After Efx and export 23.98 and the audio is delayed. When I try to capture 1080psf 23.98 I can’t capture from A frame, but from somewhere after 1 min mark and audio is also delayed.

I figured this out……I need a tri level sync in order to capture 23.98 from 59.94 tape….I also tried capturing 29.97 and than exporting through compressor as 23.98 and I still get some combing effects at some spots…..So the video is fine and than for 2 frames it gets weird and than it’s fine again for maybe few minutes and again……I than import the file into after effects and select upper field first and it looks good……The only thing is it takes a long time…..
