FCP – file error
Recently when I boot FCP it asks for a file from a previous project. The message is:
“Searching for movie data in file xxxxxxx. Without this file the movie cannot play.”
The file referenced is a “render” file, again from a previous project.
I have tried several fixes:
1) trashing preferences (using “Preference Manager”)
2) In FCP User Prefs – I unchecked “Open last project on application launch”
3) repaired preferences on MacBook Pro and ran DiskWarrior on HD.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

You have exported a Quicktime reference movie, then reimported it. Now some of the render files that that reference movie references are gone…so you will get that error. To get rid of that error, you need to delete the QT reference movie from the project.

But what if I have hundreds of files and I don’t remember which file I did that to?

Then you are going to need to check each one…one by one…to see which is the problem file.
And never do this again. Reference QT movies are good when you are going to Compressor to make a DVD or web movie. Export QT ref…compress for whatever…then delete the file when done. Never use QT reference movies in FCP for editing.
