Is anyone aware of where I might find a comprehensive chart or poster that shows all of the different video formats, sizes, etc., that might possibly help me understand the differences. I have the standard def thing down fairly well, and 720p, i and 1080i,p but when I work in FCP and see all of the variations on this these themes in some of the set up and input areas I end up guessing and that’s not good. Links appreciated.

    Thank you…

    Hi Dennis,
The chart that Tom posted gives you the “on screen specs’ of all the HD formats, but not the “on tape/acquisition” specs.
What you need is to get familiar with this:

Here you have all the elements that can change in a QT movie. Capture Presets are just combinations of the same variables.
The only element that can mislead you to understand the HD realm is that there are two different king of pixels: HD and Square.
Format using HD pixels (HDV, DVCProHD, some XDCAM,..) works in two sizes; 1440×1080 and 996×720.
Formats using Square pixels works in 1990×1080 and 1280×720.
    Questions welcomed.
