I’ve just started to edit a new one hour show and am experiencing some weirdness in the timeline. I’ll be going fine and suddenly I click on a clip in the timeline and it won’t highlight; my tools won’t attach to an edit; I can’t pick up and move a clip, and the whole project response time slows to a crawl. I quit out, come back in and everything is fine.

A little info… I’m working with large long clips (10min @ 10bit uncompressed) and chopping them up. I’ve got two timelines and canvases open at once so I can take from one of them and paste it into the other. (I know I can put one in the viewer, but for various reasons I don’t want to do that.)

Any ideas what might be going on? I’ll do the obvious (trash prefs).

    Thanks,
    Andrea

You need to cull down the project: it’s getting too big and FCP doesn’t purge it’s memory well.

Make a new Save As from where you are. Then open that new project and delete all your old edits and things you don’t need. It should speed things up.
