    Greetings all,

I edited this reel for a client, its 2 hours long and he originally gave my avi files. knowing FCP would crap out if i used these I transcoded and all the clips (there were 80 or them) to h.264. I think I really made a mistake cause now the project is done and when ever i try to render it out to a .mov its freaks out I get a 27min .mov file that jumps around from place to place and I don’t even get the full project only 27mins of random shots. Any thoughts? I haven’t tried exporting it to any other format other then h.264 cause it would take overnight to render and i need this done by saturday. Any advice?

PS- I should have converted them to DV/NTSC but I didn’t have 800g of free space on any of my drives.

Yes, you made a mistake going h264. That’s a delivery codec and I think that can behave even worst than AVI in FC.
Try changing the sequence codec to Proress and export. It may take long but I think is the only option you have. This or restart converting the AVI.

No. Your pictures had already suffer a lot (AVI>H264>??)
    Try 8/10b Uncompress or Proress.

    Hi Greg,
Please let me know if its works.
H264 is coming with a lot of energy.
In the next FC versions, FC will be able to cope with MP4.
But at the moment I don’t dare to drop any in my time-line:-)

    Hi,

i am capturing some dv footage from sony DSR 45p, some DV,s which has footage over 40 minutes is not showing proper timing(duration) in timeline when it is captured in specific folder, but if i move the footage from that specific folder to another folder or any other location and then if i import to the project it is showing perfectly right, it shows me same duration what tape has. . I am very much confused with this problem, i have never faced this problem before so please guide me on this problem as soon as possible otherwise i ll be in trouble.

    Regards
    Sanket

    Greg,

Also something worth noting is that AVI is a container, whilst H.264 is a codec i.e you could have a H.264 that is a MP4, QT or flv.

Apologies if I am stating the obvious it just didn’t seem to come up in the thread.

    Hi Sanket,
When I have any kind of similar problem I try to clean a bit the system.
Repairing Permissions and rebuilding directories normally fix those issues.

Do you have ins and outs marked on your clips? Clear in the in and out and see if the duration is appropriate.
