Compressor setting for HD to SD 8 Bit 16:9 Clip Conversion
I am attempting to use Compressor for a HD to SD 8 Bit 16:9 clip conversion. Various presets have been used but none give me a 16:9
letterbox treatment. Can anyone give me the details so I can configure the Inspector to give me this result? I have Googled extensively but havnt found any info that pertains to this particualr process. Thnaks! -

That is because it should be though of as 4:3 Letterbox, the pixels are .9 in your final video but you scale and distort the image to give you a 16:9 look on a 4:3 screen.
Compressor Settings
Encoder>Video Format>Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Geometry>Padding: 16X9 1.78:1everything else is as you need it.

Michael, thanks for your response. I understand the Geometry padding setting, but I am currently looking at the Encoder screen of the Inspector and I see File Format …Extension…Video Settings (I checked here but there is only options for compression type and frame rate and key frames and data rate) …Audio settings and Streaming options where I can change paramenters. But I dont see a Video Format>Aspect Ratio option that can be changed…Can you tell me where it is located?

Sorry, if you are going to a format that is HD and SD (Uncompressed or ProRes) you should set the Dimension (encoded pixels) to Pixel Aspect to NTSC CCIR601/DV then the padding, it will look wrong in the preview but the export should be fine.
