  exporting HD

  I edited a 4 minute sequence with 2 layers of video shot on DVC Pro HD. Also dropped on a chroma key for greenscreen purposes. this was edited on a MacBook Pro (previous generation). Then rendered!

  My question is how long should it take (approx) to export the sequence as a Quicktime movie? How long would it take using compressor? Wanted to move the file once exported and burn it to a DVD but it seems to take forever to complete an export? (H264, best quality, window size 1280×960)

  For screening purposes whats the lowest setting I can use to shorten the export time but still have it watchable?

  Read this only if you are making a SD DVD for screening.

  Never, I mean NEVER export video that is going to DVD to H.264 (unless you are talking about HD DVD or BluRay)

  Export from FCP as Self Contained (Current Settings)
  Bring into Compressor, make a m2v preset so that it is a CBR (constant bitrate) change the Bitrate to 7Mbps, this should take no more than 5 minutes to export. The quality will be the best.

  Encode the audio to ac3 for better playback compatibility.
