  • Final Cut captures quit after one second

Am capturing HDV from a JVC BR-HD50 deck via Firewire into Final Cut Pro 6 and every capture quits at exactly one second. They are manual captures. Project is set for 720P 30 and deck is set for the JVC which is NTSC Firewire as per FC website. There don’t seem to be any presets for limiting capture lengths in Final Cut unless I am missing something. Clues as to why this is happening? Thanks

I’ve seen this happen when there isn’t enough hard drive space for the capture destination. There is also a limiter in FCP under “system settings” on the “capture scratch” tab.

Your hard drive is probably the culprit, not fast enough for 720P HD footage. Stay in the HDV codec.

Try changing the location of your capture scratch, see if that makes a difference. Try setting it in your documents area, and also on your desktop, see if that changes anything.

Also, try throwing out your Final Cut Pro User Data.

To find that, navigate from Home>Library>Preferences and then once in Preferences you should find it there. Just make sure you save any plug-ins before you throw out the folder.
