Mixing PAL625/50, 720p50 and 1080i50 for a PAL DVD release

We are editing a multicam concert from 7 different camera’s.
5 HDV 1080i50 (25fps; upper fields)
1 XDCAM EX 720p50 (25fps; progressive)
1 XDCAM PAL 625/50 (25fps; upper fields)The master of the edit should be an uncompressed PAL file, ready to be processed for distribution on DVD and broadcast on TV.
We plan to edit in low res first, with 7 dv pal files (our hdd’s can’t handle 7 uncompressed tracks), and then reconnect them with the higher quality uncompressed files later.
I want to downconvert the HD files to PAL first. The film will never be released in HD so it’s easier (and more hard drive friendly) to work from and master in PAL files. What concerns me most is the field orders. I did a test and all the footage from the 720p50 camera would strobe on the tv. The interlaced files (after swapping the fields to lower) would give smooth camera movements.
What is the best way to convert these files to uncompressed pal? Which field order should I use when aimed at creating a master for DVD? And what is the best way to implement the 720p50 files in the PAL edit.

Hi Mark,
With that kind of footage and a medium performance machine I wouldn’t bother in transcoding nothing.
If the most part of your footage is Upper first, edit in an Upper first sequence.

Thanks Rafael. Should I transcode the 720p50 to a PAL upper field first? When I made a test dvd from an upper field sequence, the720p50 footage gave judder on the TV, the other footage moved smooth as butter. I can use a high end system for the rendering and transcoding of files. We just had to edit it on a medium performance machine due to budget constraints.

Hi Mark,
I work with DV, HDV and XDCAM with a MBP an some fast HDs and no problems.
I have never worked with p50 footage, but it shouldn’t be any problem when dropped in a i50 sequence.
FC should take a field from each frame and get a perfect i50 movie.
Make a test, but It should be that easy. the other way around would be by re-interlacing but this would be more time consuming.
