syncing audio from a field recorder to video in FCP
I need to sync audio from a field audio recorder to videomaterial in FCP. and since I have lot’s of clips, I’d prefer an automated solution.
I shoot on a Panasonic AJ-SPX900 in DVCPro50 and record audio on a Nagra IV. The Nagra records 6 audiotracks to 6 .wav files, and the camera feeds timecode to the Nagra, so the audio and video should sync up perfectly.
I had fooled myself into thinking I could sync it with the multiclip tool – but when I tried that it wasn’t as easy as I had thought. I had to do 7 “insert clip” to get my video and 6 audiotracks down on the timeline!
My dreamscenario would be a bin full of my P2clips but with the 6 audiotracks from the Nagra – instead of the 4 from the camera.
Failing that, an easy way to sync up the audio from the Nagra to videoclips on my timeline.Any ideas?

I see that both programs have trial versions, so I’ll give them a try and let you how it goes.

I went with the first program, “BWF_QT_merge”, and it’s working fine so far.
I chose it for two reasons:
1. a lot cheaper than “Sync-n-Link for FCP”
2. It’s a bit simpler than “Sync-n-Link for FCP”, because you don’t have to export XMLs from FCPThe only feature, I’m missing is a frame-offset function, so you could sync audio and video, that doesn’t have exactly the same TC. I you run both the camcorder TC and the audio recorder TC on the internal clock.

No problem to build that in.
(I expected it to work with the AUX TC app, where you can set an offset.)
How big can this offset go?

(the FCPauxTC reader got an update too)
So download the latest version.In the QT/BWF merge app the offset is in Msecs, but you get visual feedback how that translates to TC.
Since you work in Pal, it’s easy. One frame is 40 Msecs
(1000 msecs in a second / 25 frames in a second = 40 msecs a frame)hth,

I have already found a couple of shots, where I need it.I always work with TC – but my Pro-tools-guy would probably enjoy miliseconds too.
