  • original project in FCP6, reediting using FCP5?

My project originated in FCP6, there is a bug (that’s what Apple people say), so I want to work on this project using my FCP5. I think it’s possible by exporting an XML version of the sequences to (apple XML INTERCHANGE FORMAT, VERSION 1 or 2 or 3 or 4?) and INCLUDE MASTER CLIPS OUTSIDE OF SELECTION??? and SAVE project with latest clip metadata (recommended).

I’ve never done this, I’m somewhat nervous. I already backup my project.

    Many thanks

Use version 2 for FCP5. What is the bug BTW?

    All the best,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,
Thank you so much, I would never have known that. Here’s the bug, and it’s a long story. My project is 1 hour long with tons of hires photos, everytime I render the project, it would take 3-4 days to render, and once we get past that, the output photos tend to blur or jitter. I talked to a friend who is part of the software team at apple, we thought it was the hires photos so we took all photos offline (rename the folders), import photos into iPhoto, export them at lo res and then ask fcp to find them again. FCP found them but kept asking me to reconnect and then there are some files that remain missing, so i would have to go into each photo file, tell the computer to leave it off line and then reconnect, the files manually, one by by one. With more than 400 photos, this is not efficient. Apple saw it and said it is a bug they thought they fixed so they asked for my project folder so they can recreate the project inhouse to fix it.

one more question when exporting XML: should i check ‘include master clips outside selection’?????

    thanks tom
