  Workflow without an output Deck

  Just want to explain my workflow for a 30 min Episode and see if it’s actually the most efficient way of doing things with what I have to work with.

  1. finish online in FCP.
  2. Export a Full Res DVCPROHD Quicktime file (20 Minute export)(Native to Timeline)
  3. Re-import my QT file and add a BCast Safe Filter in FCP (1 Hr Render)
  4. Re-export another QT File with BCast Safe now added (20 Minutes)
  5. Transfer Finished QT File to small Firewire 800 drive (about 30GB)
  6. Mail the Drive to a Caption House, where they transcribe and Layback to HDCAM tape.
  7. Caption House Sends the HDCAM tape to the Network.

  The reason for exporting twice for the Bcast safe is that the Render time is quicker with the single file than with the entire Timeline with edits nested.

  I’m working with a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHZ with 4 GB Ram Editing From Western Digital 2TB FW800/ESATA drives.

  This is the best way that our little brains have figured out how to do it with the means that we have. Can anyone find a way to speed the process up? Besides of course buying a Deck or Faster Machines…

  complete waste of time. you don’t need to keep exporting / importing.

  What you do is this:

  [Marc Womack] “1. finish online in FCP. “

  Select All in the timeline.

  Drag the Broadcast Safe filter of your choice to the timeline. Yes, apply it to all the clips, NOT a nested sequence.

  Drag the Levels Filter of your choice to the timeline.

  Render once.

  Export a Self-Contained movie once.

  You’re done.

  You can Export the first time and it will both Render and Export, but it’s a little faster to Render first and then export second.
