  • Mixing HDV/DV in editing – aspect ratio

Posted by Takashi Sakurai on March 27, 2009 at 9:52 pm

    Hi all,

I have footage shot on HDV1080i60 and SD that I want to mix and edit in the same project. Nothing has been captured or downconverted at this moment yet. My biggest question is how to deal with different aspect ratio between HDV(16:9)and SD(4:3).

    Any tips/suggestions will be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Takashi

    Takashi,

Capture the HDV footage as native, or as ProRes, or downconvert it to DV if your camera will do that. Personally, I capture to ProRes and let FCP scale it down, but I set rendering to High quality YUV and set motion rendering to Best. HTH.

    Have a wonderful day.
