hi all. saw and replyed to another thread from ages ago about this, but i’m so desperate, i think it deserves its on thread.

basically i have around 50 titles that i need to do some basic animation on. i.e increase track from 1 – 3 over 4/5 seconds. when ive made them they seem to stutter or not move fluidly on the canvas and as an export via QT! i have tryed changing the field dominance and the motion setting, surely there must be some kind of solution to my problem *aaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhhh*

i dont have time to make all these in motion ( along with the fact i dont really know how to use it)

    thanks in advance.

    phil.

affecting text with the FCP interface doesn’t always look great, especially changing scale and other elements over time. I’d suggest using another text tool app and bringing it into FCP. Good luck.

I personally prefer using LiveType if I’m going to do anything with text in FCP. You won’t really be able to do anything large along the lines of scrolling, however, you can make a really stunning look if only approaching a few tracks of text at a time.

LiveType is the most underexploited resource of the FC Studio arsenal. I used it to make some professional looking titles when I was still in my home town – everybody thought I had spent days making what only took me a few minutes to put together. I highly recommend it.

Check it out. If it doesn’t meet your needs, I recommend checking out some Boris plugins.

Actually the tracking in Boris Title 3D works pretty well, it just hides the keyframes within itself, which is kind of a pain, but it does work.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Hi Phil,

Even though it’s too late here a tip for the next time. (Maybe others are also interested)
Use Motion next time in case your “tracking animation” for each title covers the same time – even if you don’t know too much about Motion.
In Motion create a project with the same settings as your sequence, adjust the length to a length you need for the title animatio oder better a bit more (especially as you don’t have an “out animation”)
Use the Text Tool to create a text box. Type in some sample text, apply a font and size, adjust kerning to the “start kerning” go to the time where the “kerning animation” ends, set a keyframe and adjust for final kerning.
    Save this as Motion Template.
You have to re-launch FCP to make the template show up within the generators.
If you drag it to the Browser, you can re-use it within your sequence just by dragging it into the title track like any other generator
If you look at the generator settings you will see the text you typed in and some settings for Text Size and Text Tracking. Type in the text you want.
This now will smoothly animate the tracking. You always can edit the Motion Generator. But there is something which you have to be aware of. If you edit this (or any other Motion Template and just save it the modification only will affect the edited generator, if you again save and replace the template by using Save as Template it will affect all generator. This is a very powerful feature.

Damn! I knew I should have used AE or something else. I just thought this would be quicker. Glad to hear I’m not the only one to realize: ANIMATING TEXT IN FCP RESULTS IN STUTTERING, CHOPPY, TITLES!!! But back to the drawing board i guess…
