specs and things
Posted by Jason Padgett on March 25, 2009 at 8:07 amI was told that you can use a mac book pro with Final Cut Studio to edit video, what kind of specs would I need to function because right now, I can’t save anything and I have about ten hours of DV tape footage for a documentary I shot in Egypt. And another problem I am running into is I keep dropping audio frames and most of my audio is out of sync.

March 25, 2009 at 11:59 amYou need a media storage device. We recommend FW 800 RAID at the very minimum and eSATA is even better for speed. You can look at G-Tech, LaCie, Sonnet and Maxx Digital among others for options. You want at least double the amount of storage needed to ensure plenty of overhead and speed.
If you’re capturing / playing back your media from the internal Mac HD, then you’re going to run into all sorts of issues. Media should NEVER be captures / stored on your primary system drive.

Editing on a Mac Book Pro is something you can definatly do. I do it all the time.
IF it were me I’d look at either the 2.66 in either the 15″ or 17″ depending on my budget. I use a 15 and I’m quit happy. the 17″ will now hold up to 8gig of ram and that is a bonus. I am using 4 in my MacBook Pro with a 320 gig 7200 rpm hard drive and an IoHD and and external Sata drive and happy with the results.Life Begins at 155mph

Walter hit it on the head when he said that you really need an external drive for your media. What are the exact specs of your system?
