  PD150 16:9 – 4:3 to anamorphic

  Hi Guys,

  I’ve just finished editing a project that I shot on a PD150 using the 16:9 setting. Unfortunately when I took the rushed into FCP I didn’t use the anamorphic setting so I’ve cut everything with the footage displayed in a 4:3 frame letterboxed as 16:9.

  What I want to know is, is there a quick fix? I want to be able to output my project in 16:9 without redigitising – or without going through my timeline shot by shot replacing what I’ve got with the same footage with the anamorphic setting checked.

  Please help.

  The quick fix would be to first duplicate your sequence. Then open the new copy into the Timeline window and open the sequence settings (Cmd Zero) and tick the Anamorphic checkbox and click ok, next select everything in that sequence (Cmd A), then chose Remove Attributes (Cmd Opt V) and tick the Scale and Distort attributes and click OK. Now skim through and see if everything is as it should be … if anything untoward has happened (ie some intentionally scaled and distorted images have lost those settings then you can either recreate that from scratch or copy and paste frpm the original sequence and adjust as necessary.

  Thanks so much Andy. First time I’ve posted here and I’m wondering why I didn’t do it sooner – been searching for a solution to that one for ages.

  Worked perfectly. Don’t know if it’s because I’m working on Mac or just FCP 4.5 rather than a later version but I could only check ‘distort’ rather than ‘distort and scale’ but it seemed to do the trick anyway.

  The only other problem I have with this sequence is with the sound. I have a low hum on a couple of clips which I know I would be able to EQ out if I had a proper post-production mix but obviously I don’t. Any idea how to get that done on FCP?
