  slightly squeezed QT import

  Here’s one that’s a mystery to me. I hope I put in all the important facts. I’m editing DV in FCP. Sequence setting are 720×480 NTSC DV(3:2)-Pixel Aspect Ratio is set at NTSC-601/DV(720×480). Everything on the timeline looks good. Photoshop files imported as PNG look good.(When I say good, I mean circles look round. No squeezing problems.) Then, when I import a quicktime animation created by another in our company, the round circles become a bit squeezed vertically making the circle oval and a bit taller. When I view this Quicktime animation with Quicktime Pro, it looks fine. The properties of the QT animation match the sequence settings in FCP as far as I can tell. The plot thickens…I had to lengthen the tail end of the animation to allow for a fade. I used Make Freeze Frame and created a three second piece for the tail. This tail piece looked fine! Huh?? The round circle was actually round in the viewer. Help me edit gurus.

  Have you checked the distort values in the motion tab? Also look at the info on the clip and see if the pixel aspect is exactly the same as your sequence.

  QuickTime uses square pixels, NTSC pixels are rectangular. Enough said?

  Alexander- Well, I knew that NTSC pixels were Rectangular but can’t the QT pixel shape be dictated in the export and if not, what’s the fix other than distorting the frame in FCP?
