Posted by Bob Zelin on March 4, 2009 at 1:40 amHi –
do you see that all the new MAC Pro’s use the new LED monitors, and if you want to run 2 24″ monitors, you need an additional graphics card ?bob Zelin

No. I think people are misunderstanding this. There’s a display port and a DVI port. You plug your DVI port into the DVI and you get a display port adaptor that will adapt your DVI to display port.
A couple of them are $29. The Dual link DVI one is $99. You don’t need two graphics cards unless you have two display port monitors.

March 4, 2009 at 2:25 amThey really should just throw DisplayPort to DVI adapter in with the box. Opening it up and not being able to connect your 2 perfectly good DVI monitors to it is a shame. Especially if you have 2×30″. $99 just to hook up your monitor? ouch.

Yeah, I hear that. The biggest ouch to me is the $2600 upgrade to the fastest processors. I’ll take $198 over that any day…

March 4, 2009 at 4:02 amThere have also been several reports of the adapter not working correctly on 30″ monitors too. To read of frustration, have a look at https://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8680802 and be fore-warned!

March 4, 2009 at 4:42 amJeremy, Where are you getting that Zelin quote from? It’s not in his post that started this thread. Is there a secret Zelin to Garchow thread link? 🙂

March 4, 2009 at 4:42 amMonoprice.com is selling the adapters for $15. They make DVI and HDMI. I read they’ll have a dual-link DVI and a mini to regular DisplayPort available in the near future.

But according to the Apple release, it does say you need two graphics cards to run two of the Apple 24″ displays. This will be a major problem for Color as I discussed in the previous thread since it cannot run with more than one graphics card as it stands right now.
Hopefully this means a major improvement to the entire Studio Suite is upcoming in April.
