Time Lapse Clip difficulty when Sped up in FCP
Hi everyone,
I’m fairly new to FCP but have been learning. I recently shot a time lapse sequence that is about 30 seconds long. I wanted to speed the shot up to around 5 seconds. When I go to the “Modify – Speed” function and increase the speed and drag the clip down to my timeline, the result always cuts off the ending of the time lapse (it finishes at dusk instead of night time like it was shot). Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you may have an “out point” marked on the clip before the end.
If that’s not it,
after you’ve put the sped up clip on the timeline, go back to your original
captured clip (make sure it is set to normal (or closer to normal) speed and
simply edit a few of the last night time frames onto the end of the faster clip on the timeline. -
Thanks for the reply Thax. I had thought of both those ideas as well, but my out mark is definitely at the end of the segment. When I tried adding the part that it was missing with a separate clip, it shortened that second clip! It’s driving me crazy! 🙂

Sounds like you might have a corrupted file.
Try recapturing that clip.

going form 30 seconds to 5 seconds means throwing away 5 out of every 6 frames. Go back to the original, add two or three seconds of handles, and try again.
You might also bring your clip into the timeline, or an empty timeline, and perform your speed adjustments there instead of on the Browser clip.
