  Edit AVCHD clips before pulling into FCP?

  I am getting a Canon that uses the new AVCHD format. My question is before I pull a clip into FCP can I edit the in/out points I want before capturing into FCP? Like you would do with tape. Or do I have to pull the whole clip in?

  Also once pulled in can I use it or does FCP have to render it coming in? Vixia HF11 is the camera.

  Yes, you can. Using the LOG AND TRANSFER method you can import the footage as PRoRes, and mark IN and OUT points to only import what you want.

  Once imported as ProREs, there is no rendering. Mind you, ProRes takes up a lot of space. There is no native support for AVCHD in FCP yet.

  Thanks. How do I use ProRes is that a capture option?

  There is a sprocket drop down menu in the top of the L&T window. Click that and choose PREFERENCES.
