So I have FCP 6.0.2 and a trial of sapphire stylish effects bundle.. Funny thing is that I used to make changes on the plug-ins –change/delete/put it back etc..and it used to run smoothly but now everytime i change a plug-in the only way I can get it to be smooth again is if I render the footage again… I’m guessing I changed something and just have not figured out what it is…. oh and even every time I open the project it tells me there are files offline.. but I just hit continue and the files are there…. the video is run from my internal Internal sata drive.. on my mac pro tower 4 gigs or ram xeon running the latest os x update… Weird …but anyone have an idea what it could be?…. oh the factory stock plugins run fine..
    thanx..

    Tony,

You neglected to mention what video codec you’re editing, how many layers, how many audio tracks, etc. These all determine how much realtime performance you get in FCP. Also, how full your single media drive may be also affects this. In addition, Sapphire effects are notoriously processor intensive. So, there you have it…

Probably so if you’re working with FX and various layers, speed changes, etc. But don’t forget Quickview mode, and don’t forget to select just the portion you want to render in the time line, render it, and check out your work from there rather than rendering the entire thing every time.
