  16:9 timeline with mixed 4:3 footage – all with people in it

  OK, so I have a 16:9 (anamorphic) timeline in FCP with P2 footage.

  I also have a B roll in 4:3.

  I want to cut between the two. The only way to maintain aspect ratio of the B roll would be to scale the clips (about 138 percent)? And I would also have to do some pan and scan so that the peope won’t “get out of the picture”. 🙂

  Any other ideas here?

  (the best thing would have been to set the A cam to 4:3 and then convert the 4:3 timeline to 16:9….)

  That’s what you need to do. Would be better to upconvert the SD 4:3 to HD with something like the Kona 3. It allows for Pillarboxing that you can then pan and scan decently. Or even capture with a top/bottom crop.

  (Good morning, up early? 😉 )

  I forgot to mention (but you already know) that I have the IoHD.
  And I shoot SD with both 16:9 (HPX500) and the Beta (4:3).

  When I drop the Beta clips they are pillarboxed automatically, so I’ll just zoom them. But 136 % is quite a lot with SD…

  Ah, well… 🙂
