23.976 timeline and still images – choppy movement
For the first time I am working with a 23.976p timeline. Our video has still images keyframed for basic motion to achieve the Ken Burns effect, however, I noticed in my external monitor that the movement looks choppy rather than smooth. Like I said, this is my first time working with 24p, so I’m not sure if this is normal due to the slower frame rate or if there is something I can do to create smoother movement. Any ideas?

Are you simply too used to VIDEO and the smoothness that 60i at 30fps gets you, and NOT used to 24p and the film look? That does get a lot of people.
How are you getting the image to the external monitor?

That’s what I am wondering. I think I might be used to the look of 60i, but I’m not sure so I figured I’d ask because my interview footage doesn’t look as choppy as the movement of the pics. But then again, they’re just talking heads, so there isn’t much movement anyway.
The video is going from mac to miniDV deck via firewire, then miniDV deck to broadcast monitor with s-video.

Not the best viewing method. You would get a better looking image with something like the AJA Kona boards providing playback.

Yea I know. I can’t afford a Kona card yet though. I’m still in college. I’m very lucky to have the set up I have. But I’ll take what your saying as a hint that I’m probably not doing anything wrong; I’m just not used to working with 24p and don’t have a kona card.
