    Hello,

    I am trying to export my timeline (68 minutes) to OMF for sound edit, and I get the message:

    ‘The resulting file would be greater than 2 GB in size and is not currently supported.’

    The file should not be that large and in fact I get the same message if I try to export only a small sequence from the same timeline. I am able to export to OMF on the same project from a couple of days ago, so something changed during my last session, but I can’t figure out what.

    Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated!!

    Many thanks,

    Josephine

    You might try copying and pasting your sequence into a new sequence/project. Also you might try dumping your preferences. Make sure you’re handles on the audio are accidentally set to something like minutes or something (1 to 5 seconds is normally adequate). If your project really is creating OMFs larger than 2GB, then divide the project up and export tracks 1-2 first, then tracks 3-4 in a different OMF, then 5-6 etc.

    I’d go closer to 5. Small handles make sound guys very very sad.

    [Russell Lasson] “divide the project up and export tracks 1-2 first, then tracks 3-4 in a different OMF, then 5-6 etc. “

    Simple way to do this is by turning off the green light (not mute) to the left of the corresponding audio tracks in the timeline that you are not exporting. OMF export will only export the active audio tracks.

    Thank you Russell and Colin for your suggestions. I had in fact tried copying the timeline to a new project, and got the same message. I also tried exporting 2 trax at a time, same message. I also divided up the timeline into 15 minute segments (using in and out to designate segments to export) and got the same message. I even tried exporting a single clip and got that message, even with only 1 second handles. I will try dumping the preferences and report back – thanx again 😉

    [Josephine Mackay] ” I also divided up the timeline into 15 minute segments (using in and out to designate segments to export)”

    I could be wrong, but I believe OMF export will export the entire sequence regardless of in and out points. And the only way to omit specific tracks from the export is by either deleting the track, or by selecting the ‘Green’ speaker button to the left each audio track, making the ones you don’t want appear ‘grayed out’ in the time line.

    2gb = At 48k 16bit you should get a max of 6 mono 1 hour tracks. (3 stereo, or 1 stereo and 4 mono…)
    At 48K 24bit cut this to about 4 mono tracks.
    With a 68 minute program, you may only be able to use 5 mono tracks per OMF export.

    Yay! This works. Except I can only do 2 tracks per OMF with 5 second handles, so I will have to do numerous OMFs to export all 11 tracks. I don’t know why the tracks are so unusually heavy, but at least I can do it. Thank you so much!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
