no C drop shadow in Boris 3d
Posted by Mike Simpson on January 29, 2009 at 11:16 amI’ve just done some titles/credits in BORIS 3D within FCP (version 5.1.4) and for some strange reason i am unable to apply a drop shadow to any capital C that i insert!
All other letters have it applied just fine.Any ideas?

January 29, 2009 at 1:59 pmFor whatever reason, Boris does not like that particular font. I have had the exact same issues here with some fonts, particularly those that are downloaded from free font sites. No clue why.
On Good Eats for example they use a particular font and the letter “i” would never get a drop shadow in Boris. So I created all the graphics for that show in Photoshop.

January 29, 2009 at 2:17 pmI like a lot of things about Boris Title 3D, but it’s drop shadow is not one of them. I ALWAYS do my drop shadows in the motion tab. They always work and look MUCH better.
Have a wonderful day.

January 29, 2009 at 2:34 pmThanks for your input.
I stupidly hadn’t even thought about the drop shadow in the motion tab.
(Note to self…sometimes it’s real easy…just think a bit.)Guess i’ll give that a go and looking forward to the results.

March 18, 2009 at 4:44 pmI’m new to FCP and discovered today that the soft drop shadows I applied in Boris Title 3D would disappear during a cross dissolve between two of the titles, as in a text build. I haven’t seen anything about that issue in this forum. I found that applying the shadow in the Motion tab, as Chris suggested, was a better route.

March 19, 2009 at 2:45 amTry the drop shadow in Boris first, it’s real-time. The drop shadow in the motion is not.
Could we get some specifics: what fonts might be doing this, what letters. I tried C with a number of fonts and couldn’t reproduce the problem. It might be a font issue. Some are really sloppily made.
All the best,
Tom
