  • upgrading to FCS 2 with Kona 2 – any caveats?

Posted by Rob Ruzic on January 26, 2009 at 3:00 pm

I’m doing some work at a place with FCP 5.1.4 and a Kona 2. They’d like to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2, but are worried that it might not work well with the old Kona. Upgrading to a Kona 3 is not an option.

So I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience working with FCS 2 and Kona 2. Have you had any problems or have things been running smoothly?

The computer is a G5, dual 2.5 GHz processor, 4.5 GB of RAM, running OS X 10.4.11.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    FWIW, I’m running Studio 2 on a G5 dual 2.5 and a Kona 2. Works pretty well.

Make sure you clone your startup disk before you upgrade or change anything.

Format your startup disk, do a clean install of Leopard, the latest Kona 2 firmware & drivers, FCS 2 & all of your other software, then you should be fine.

That system worked great six years go and still works great today, but it’s essentially ancient technology now.
