Started a project on a MacPro, ran out of time and had to leave town for a job. I decided to copy the project file onto my MacBook Pro, and the folder containing the media files to an external hard drive.

I thought, based on past experience, that it would be a snap to reconnect the media. But I discovered two weird things:

    1. About half the time, FCP told me that the file to reconnect had the right name, but the wrong start and end. Did I REALLY want to connect this file? Of course – and it worked fine. So, why the error/warning message?

    2. Although I checkmarked the box to reconnect all other files in the path, FCP didn’t do that even once. I had to reconnect every single file.

So what did I do wrong here?

You didn’t use the media manager to copy the files… that works just fine for me when reconnecting… because you don’t have to at all! Just create a new project file during the process from the Media Manager’s window and it will be already connected to the copies.
