    HI

Right, i am in FINAL CUT PRO and for some reason the CANVAS window size isn’t quite right. I have never faced this prob only today. The canvas has shrunk in size and the footage I import is only limited to that size. I have tried playing with all the presets and everything and now i am loosing it! I have been at it since last night:( I BEG someone to help me.

In return I will pray you have a long happy healthy life:)

I am going BONKERS here as evident from this thread! $%£%^££^%%%%%%$&

WHy does my canvas look tiny with grey border around it! It used to be al black and fit the entire window!

I am so close to punching my mac! grrr

    thanks:)
    🙁

Take a deep breath, it’s merely a computer application with options you have not yet learned, but will soon.

Try window menu — arrange — standard. Does this bring windows to a more familiar size?

This should really be in the final cut pro Basics forum.

Set your Canvas to “Fit to Window”

If that doesn’t solve it, just reset by doing Window > reset the displays to Standard.

Errr, Not really I think it is beyond that. I have tried all the very basic things like fit in window and presets and everything.

What is the frame size you’re working with? My guess is the frame size is larger than your Canvas so you’re getting the nice big grey bars around your image.

    Ok

my footage is HDV 1440 by 1080, its filmed on HDV .
anyways when i import it into FCP i correct the presets accordingly, and i still get bars one on top and the other underneath it.:( Grey ones.

Yep, this is a very basic question.

Your Canvas needs to be 1920×1080 wide for you NOT to see the grey bars. When your canvas is smaller than 1920 x 1080 FCP will letterbox your image into the Canvas when you are set to Fit to Window.

Or just change the aspect ratio to 16×9 instead of square in the Canvas.

Set your Canvas to 100% and you’ll see your image go right off the Canvas.

It’s all about pixels. Make your Canvas match the pixels and you’ll have a full screen canvas without the “bars.” This is why most of us use external monitors. It doesn’t matter what the Canvas shows us, we get full screen images on our external monitors.
