January 14, 2009 at 6:54 amKernal panics can be caused by anything from janky software to bad hardware. I recommend you making an appointment at the genius bar at the apple store and let them have a look at it because issues like this are not vary easy to trouble shoot vie a web forum.

That is all nice but it still is not going to help anyone be able to figure out what is wrong over the internet. There are to many variables that could be causing the issue. I have seen kernal panics be caused by so many different things that there is just no way I can say over the internet.
I am sorry to be a bit rude but I it just seems that some people believe that they can find the answer to anything on a forum. Don’t get me wrong forums are amazing. It just that in cases like this a trained technician with physical access to the machine is going to be able to figure out the cause a hole lot faster then anyone on a forum can.

January 14, 2009 at 9:09 amHi Lavoy,
As Zane says a Kernell Panic can comes from many different reasons, but There are some routines that will make your Mac less likely to suffer problems.
Tigre and leopard are programed to run some of those processes in your Mac at night (cleaning caches, prebinding, etc) so is good to let it open at night now and hen.
There are other operations that you must do by yourself.
Repairing Permissions is convenient after each software installation.
But for me the most important is, as David suggest, rebuild the directories of your HDs, starting by the the System HD. You can do it with DiskWarrior, TechTools or a new application call Drive Genius.
don’t wait to have problems with your Mac to make this kind of maintenance. If you do it in a regular basis you will avoid many headaches.
cheers,
Rafael
