[Maxime Marquis] “I usually use Toaster when I need to burn a DVD. Is there a better software to do it? If there is, what are the main disadvantages of softwares like iDVD and Toaster , which are very easy to use. “
If you and your clients are satisfied with the results, then stick with Toast for now. However, Toast is pretty much regarded as a consumer (non-professional) encoder), and the results in the hands of an experienced user will most likely never be nearly as good as with Compressor or the other dedicated encoding apps, which have better encoders and additional controls.
If you are a professional it would behoove you to learn both Compressor and DVDSP. [Maxime Marquis] “y shooting format is DVCPRO HD and, when I want to export for a DVD burning, I go to Quicktime movie and select Current settings and leave Make a self contained movie unchecked.”
That’s just fine, so long as you are completely aware that that by making a reference file, rather than a self contained file, the file will become corrupt and useless whenever any of the underlying files are changed, or whenever that project is re-rendered. I almost always create self contained files so that I’m not surprised to discover that I have a useless export at a later date.
