  • Drop frames in FC using 8 drives VTrack

Posted by Dj Bouzourene on January 8, 2009 at 1:23 am

I setup a new Apple 8 drives Vtrack directly attached to a MacPro, Apple 4GB card using FC studio2 and I keep getting drop frames, I tried all type of settings Raid 5, Raid 0, and Xsan script no luck:(
Called VTrack today and they are now saying that I need to have all 16 drives to stop drop frames and that 8 drives is not enough, so basically I have to spend an extra $3,000.00 to get 8 more drives to get it to work.

Can anyone please confirm that’s the only solution before I spend the money.

    Thx.

What resloution are you working in and how fast are the drives running?

The drives are running about 200MB/S using Decklink disk speed test.

    I’m using SD 10bit

    Thx.

That should definitely get you through 10bit SD and then some. Your raid manufacturer is giving you the ole upsell speech, don’t listen to it for now.

Do you have a capture card?

OK. so you have a 4GB fibre card, and a decklink card. What slots are those in?

How much RAM do you have?

The Fiber card is in slot 2 (fastest) and the Blackmagic in 4

    4GB memory.

I started this post to find someone with a VTrack storage that can confirm what the tech support are saying.

You have a new MacPro or a pre2008?

I’d put the fibre in slot 4 and the decklink in slot 2.
