  Archiving Project

  Hello Everybody,
  What do you think is the best and most reliable way to archive your project; DVD or Hard drive? I am about to archive a feature film. My problem is archiving the rendered color files, which total about 35.6 gbs. Is it worth putting all this on so many dvd with back-up copies or just purchasing a hard drive with the only purpose of it being for archiving?

  When I archive all I do is print the master edit to tape and then save is the project files and graphics to CD/DVD (This includes FCP, DVD SP, Photoshop, etc etc files). As long as you logged and captured all your footage it can be recaptured and re-rendered.

  There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
  Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!

  Archiving that to DVD is unrealistic. Well, problematic because you have to break things up. Hard drive or tape drives are better options

  I don’t care for backing anything up on CD/DVD media since I’ve had some
  problems copying back to hard drive after years have gone by.

  I just backup to a mirrored 500GB drive until it’s 90% filled
  then start a new one.
