The error message I thought was fixed reappeared again today.

    ______________
Codec not found. You may be using a compression
type without the corresponding hardware card.
    _______________

Any more ideas for me to try out would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jacques,
I think this is a new warning of FC 6.0.5 because I never had it before until yesterday.
I don’t know if I can reproduce the issue.
I’ve been editing EX-1 in a SD Proress sequence. A friend of mine was helping me cutting the same stuff in his system. When I tried to render some of his stuff I started to have the same warning: Codec not found…
I realized that the sequences my friend gave me were DV. I changed the sequence codec to ProRess and everything worked.
So the warning is about the ability of your computer to manage a file because the size, bit depth or codec or something like that.
No point to re-install or delete but to learn the conditions that trigger the warning.

Okay, I have made more progress in my endeavor of this most irritating error.

The top layer of this project has several HDV clips. I have found that I remove them I can render the sequence.

Another thing I have tried and had work is to export the sequence EDL as an XML. Then quit FCP, trash preferences and start a new HDV project with the sequence also set for vanilla 1080i HDV, which is what the top layer of clips is. Then open the XML edit and export that to DV using QT conversion. I do get the same error message *at the end of the render* (the error dialog box actually showed up TWICE), but the export is there, opens and plays fine.

    STRANGE!

PS I tried to find an app called FCP rescue, but it seems to have been removed from all sites that had this download. Anyone know the story there?

You’re right. It seems to have been deleted and Anders’ site can’t be found in a Google search anymore, either. Very strange.

If you want it I can email it to you. Contact me at: greeningATshawDOTca.

    Hi Raf,

Happy holidays to you as well. Best wishes to you and your family in the coming year.

We got snowed in which is unusual for our area. According to the news reports this is the first time in 50 years that all of Canada had a white Christmas.
