Need a codec reminder – 10-bit vs. Animation
Hi all,
Working on a project in FCP 6.0.5 where I dropped in a lower third that was created in AE 7.0 (rendered in Animation codec w/straight alpha channel). The timeline settings are as follows:– 720×480 – open timeline
– 29.97 – no fields
– 10-bit uncompressed
– Render settings are “render all YUV material in high-precision YUV”The bulk of the timeline has DVCPRO HD 720p footage that FCP resized for 720×480 (which is what I need to deliver the edit in). I placed the lower third on the timeline, and for some reason, it doesn’t look as sharp as it should (it looked aliased, compressed). I have done this exact thing before, with different results, where the lower third looked perfectly sharp on a 10-bit timeline (as sharp as it did coming out of AE). My only option, it seemed, was to duplicate the timeline, change the codec to Animation, and re-render. This was the only way to achieve razor sharp lower thirds.
Is FCP glitching?
