  • better camera for importing to FCP?

Posted by Steve Hansen on December 18, 2008 at 12:26 am

    Hi all,

I am trying to decide on a camera, and am down to two finalists – the Panasonic AG-HPX170 or the Sony HVR-Z7U. I am most interested in which one works better with importing from each camera’s respective digital media cards into Final Cut Pro 6.

Also, if there is another camera similar in features and price that you recommend as well, I’d love t o hear about it

Any insight is very appreciated, and I thank you in advance

    Hi Steve,
Between those two cameras I wouldn’t hesitate one second and I would pick the PANA.
a DVCProHD camera will give you far better quality than a similar camera shooting HDV.
A shortcoming is that your workflow may be a bit more complicated (up to the frequent calls for help of the P2 users), and that you will need a solution if you intend to stock footage because the files takes four more memory than the HDV and printing to DVCProHD tape is very expensive.
    Cheers,
    rafael

The Sony CineAlta PMW-EX1 is an excellent camera as well. It works seamlessly with Final Cut Pro and is capable of recording beautiful images.
