    Greetings,
I need to do some editing in the field. Very basic stuff, mostly checking picture for the editor.
    FCP6. DVCProHD off of a P2 card.
Questions: How much faster is the 2.8GHz MacBookPro than the 2.53GHz?
How do I get picture to my Panasonic HD monitor while editing in FCP?
What’s the best external hard drive to travel with?

    Thanks

[David Linstrom] “How much faster is the 2.8GHz MacBookPro than the 2.53GHz?”

Not very. Doubt you’d notice it unless you were using Compressor a lot.

[David Linstrom] “How do I get picture to my Panasonic HD monitor while editing in FCP?”

    Matrox MXO…MXO 2…AJA IOHD.

[David Linstrom] “What’s the best external hard drive to travel with?”

I like the Caldigit drives, and the Maxx Digital quad interface drives. But do you mean bus powered?

    A.C. powered will do.

How do I measure how much storage to bring?

    Here’s a calculator:

It’s also available in widget form.

Just checking, but you do know that the MBP doesn’t have a PC slot to read P2 cards right? The PowerBook did, but now you need to read from the camera, buy a dedicated reader, or a Express Card to PC Card adapter.

[Shane Ross] “I like the Caldigit drives”

The CalDigit VR is great for the field. It has an LCD display so you can be confident that your RAID initialized properly and that the array is functioning properly.

    [Shane Ross] “MXO 2”
I also like the MXO 2. I’ve only used it at trade shows so far, but I really like what Matrox has done.
