  • half gray screen when i export from HDV movie file to picture

Posted by Lennaart Van oldenborgh on December 15, 2008 at 3:39 pm

    Hello,

I have captured video in HDV 1080/50i from my Canon A1 camera (in Final Cut Pro) and it plays back clean in Quicktime Pro (7.5.5) but when I try to export a still as JPEG the bottom half of the picture is mid-grey and the top half has a thin grey grid over it. If I subsequently try to open it in Photoshop it says an “invalid JPEG marker type” is found. Am I missing some codec, or is this a setting somewhere in QT?

    please help – thanks!

    Have you tried exporting again?

thanks for your reply – yes, i tried several times – actually any export on any codec will create the artifact, it almost seems like it could be some kind of DRM mechanism, although of course it’s from my own footage. i managed to do a workaround via a friend’s older laptop running mac os 10.4.11, which worked but is not a long-term solution. any ideas?

    Hi,

Did you install a demo of my codec – Calibrated{Q} XD Decode? This is a QuickTime codec to view XDCAM HD, HDV, and XDCAM EX QuickTime movies on computers without FCP installed.

It will be installed as /Library/QuickTime/CalibratedXDCodec.component. What you describe is the watermark from the 1.0.0 version.

If you delete that file and restart – then you should be fine.

    Cheers,
    Greg

fixed it – thanks! indeed i remember now a couple of months ago i installed calibrated{q} xd codec to look at some xdcam ex files which i didn’t have a codec for – even though i have HDV codecs on FCP. i guess your codec shouldn’t be used with FCP…
